Online Teaching Endorsement

Overview

The Northwest Georgia RESA Online Teaching Endorsement program is based on standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission Rule 505-3-.95 and has been developed with additional reference to the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL) standards. This endorsement will prepare candidates to teach classes in an online environment.

Courses

The Online Teaching Endorsement program consists of three courses:

  1. Foundations of Online Teaching (50 hours)

  2. Strategies for Online Teaching (50 hours)

  3. Designing and Facilitating Online Teaching (50 hours)

Technical Requirements

  • A computer running Windows 10 or higher, MacOS 10.14 or higher, or the most current version of Chrome OS

  • Internet connection of at least 3.0 Mbps (You can check your speed here)

  • Working microphone and webcam

Purpose

All courses have several purposes for candidates:

  • To investigate the history of online learning

  • To identify and research trends in online learning

  • To understand legal issues, communication, and time management in the online environment

  • To synthesize course information to create an online syllabusUnderstand multiple intelligences and learning styles and their impact on online learning

  • To apply student centered instructional practices In online learning

  • To create student tasks incorporating critical and creative thinking

  • To investigate websites and tools used in the classroom and in online learning.

  • To understand the need for adaptive/assistive technology in online learning

  • To create formative and summative assessments appropriate for the online learning environment.

  • To apply strategies for differentiation in online learning

  • To understand environmental and cultural factors that may affect the instruction of gifted students.

  • To apply communication skills to online learning

  • To utilize assessment data to plan instructional modules

  • To utilize observational data to monitor student progress

  • To investigate and create appropriate course evaluations

  • To develop and implement online learning modules

  • To analyze organizational strategies for online learning and create appropriate online learning modules

  • To evaluate peer created modules and provide constructive feedback

Application Criteria

Candidates must meet the following criteria to apply for entry into an Online Teaching Endorsement cohort:

  • Currently employed by a school system

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university with a minimum of 2.5 GPA

  • A valid Level 4 or higher Induction, Professional, Advanced Professional, or Lead Professional teaching certificate

  • Two or more years of successful teaching experience (Verification is included in Endorsement Candidate Application Form)
